This year we held our annual Navratri and Diwali Dinner at Chef's Flavours, Leicester. Lion members, their families and guests were treated to a delicious 3 course meal prepared by the talented chefs at the restuarant, and some fabulous music courtesy of Raj Chavda.
Our guest speaker was Anita Rao, Manager of Wesley Hall Community Centre. This is a local centre in the Highfields area of Leicester which provides support to the local community in many and meaningful ways. It is one of the oldest of it's kind in Leicester, but through activities and fund raising, led largely by Anita, it continues to remain an integral source of support to many local people. Volunteers are present to help less privileged individuals with day to day activities which they may struggle to complete, such as filling in forms for benefits to which they are entitled, understanding official communications, etc.
Another very important activity which Anita and her team of volunteers provides is the provision of a food bank. Leicester Charnwood Lions Club (CIO) is very proud that we were able to make a donation to this Very worthy cause.
